Class Descriptions
We offer classes for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced students. Our primary style of teaching is "Vinyasa Flow Yoga" – a flowing class linking breath with movement promoting mindful harmony of mind, body and spirit. Vinyasa Flow is a fun, life affirming form of yoga where the body and mind playfully explore yoga poses that are carefully sequenced. Descriptions of classes vary from studio to studio, to alleviate any confusion we've included a simple description of whether each class is Gentle, Moderate or Vigorous. For example, a level 3 class elsewhere is the same as our Level 2 class.
Gentle Chair Yoga
Gentle Chair Yoga is designed for students who find it difficult to get on and off the floor as required for a traditional yoga class. This class uses modified yoga poses, breathing techniques and flowing movements. That activity builds strength, improves balance, enhances joints ability to move freely, and benefits regular brain function. Through this movement we decrease tension and stress while creating more energy and stamina in our bodies. VERY GENTLE
Gentle Yoga Basics
Perfect for those with limited mobility or recovering from injury or surgery. This class provides a nurturing environment for you to relax deeply. Gentle poses and breathing techniques will be used in order to cultivate a deep state of healing. Chairs available. VERY GENTLE
Basics
For students new to yoga or those looking for a gentle class to reduce tension. Learn breath and body awareness, optimal posture and body mechanics. Focus on correct positioning of 54 basic yoga poses to strengthen lower back, abdominal muscles, legs and upper body. Students experience the meditative benefits of yoga through linking of breath with movement. This class promotes balance, flexibility, and stress reduction. MODERATE
Level 1
This class is open to all levels and due to the moderate pacing is appropriate for healthy beginners too (those without serious injury). It combines fundamentals from Yoga Basics with Sun Salutations A & B to relax the mind by mindfully flowing from one pose to the next linked with breath. A gentle flow style is used to introduce more poses including basic inversions. MODERATE/VIGOROUS
Level 1/2
This class provides an opportunity to deepen your awareness of the poses. The pace is moderate and more intermediate poses will be introduced and practiced around Sun Salutations A and B along with other Salutations. Emphasis is placed on mindfulness and breath control. Ideal for Intermediate/Advanced students with a regular practice ready to sweat and try new things. VIGOROUS
Warm Flow
A challenging vinyasa flow class practiced in a heated room. The practice will detoxify and strengthen the body while building heat. The slower paced flow emphasizes alignment and increases stamina. MODERATE/VIGOROUS
Kundalini
Traditionally all yoga systems were considered to be a preparation for the inner evolution and outer transformation for which Kundalini, is invariably a catalyst. In the context of life as we know it, in which true change is very rare, Kundalini Yoga works amazingly quickly. Kundalini Yoga is not about mastering difficult-looking exercises. It's very user-friendly. Essentially, if you can breathe you can do it! Modifications are given for each exercise so everyone can always participate. Whether you're in shape, out of shape, or wavering between the two, Kundalini Yoga will definitely work for you!
Kundalini Yoga blends breathing, movement, stretching, meditation, chanting and the science of sequence. The poet Dylan Thomas' phrase, “the force that through the green fuse drives the flower,” is the perfect definition for Kundalini. MODERATE
Sadhana Kundalini
We start with Japji (meditative prayer), then enjoy a Kundalini Yoga set, and then end with 62 minutes of meditations (the Aquarian Sadhana mantras). Sadhana means a daily spiritual practice. The yogic scriptures call for at least two-and-a-half hours of sadhana before the rising of the sun. The two-and-a-half hours is determined by the law of karma--everything you give, you receive back tenfold. Getting up for sadhana is a victory over time and doing sadhana together is a victory over space. Sadhana is a self-victory. You become incapable of being defeated! MODERATE
Restorative Yoga
A gentle class to reduce physical & emotional effects of stress. Practice supported yoga poses using blankets, blocks and straps, that open the body, while slowing down the racing mind. The result is relaxation, greater mental clarity, improved alignment and physical freedom. Breath work is included. VERY GENTLE
Pre-Natal Yoga
Prepares women physically, mentally, and emotionally for the natural process of childbirth. Increases strength, stamina, flexibility and body awareness, as it reduces fatigue and improves relaxation. It can be beneficial for every stage of pregnancy and does not require yoga experience.
Yogi Sprouts
Yoga for children increases body awareness with a physical activity that's noncompetitive. It fosters cooperation and compassion instead of opposition. It increases flexibility, coordination, and concentration. Our classes help children express creativity and imagination and open up to a peaceful and relaxed state of mind and body. Our program integrates music, stories, and fun! Registration is required - limited space available, please call to save a spot.
