FIRST AGREEMENT TRUTH LOVE INTEGRITY
APRIL 5, 2110: This is according to the author the most important one and most difficult to honor. It is to be impeccable with your word. He writes, "through the word you express your creative power. It is through the word you manifest everything. Regardless of what language you speech, your intent manifests through the word. What you dream, what you feel and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word."
What I want to point out is that we are not talking about just verbal language here. Although it is curious that of all animals on earth we are the only one who speaks. But think of internal dialogue that becomes external expression.
"The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The words is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think and thereby to create the events of your life." "The word is the most powerful tool you have as a human; it is a tool of magic. But like a sword with two edges your word can create the most beautiful dream or your word can destroy everything around you. Being impeccable with your word is not using the word against yourself. If I love myself I will express that love in my interactions with you, and then I am being impeccable with the word, because that action will produce a like reaction. If I love you, then you will love me. If I have gratitude for you, you will have gratitude for me."
"Being impeccable with your word is the correct use of your energy; it means to use your energy in the direction of TRUTH and LOVE for yourself."
In yoga this concept is known as Satya. When we are able to live with integrity always speaking with loving truth to ourselves and to others we will immediately realize an experience of lightness and ease. Every pose on the mat is a chance to practice being honest with ourselves. The power to live in truth is the same as the power to live in love. So may you be happy, may you be peaceful, may you be loved! Sat Nam, Silvia (In Truth and Light)
EXPLORATION INCLUDES THE UNEXPECTED
FEBRUARY 7, 2010: So here's what is at the heart of yoga: Yoga is the practice of revealing yourself to yourself. Our time on the mat is an experience of pure self-exploration. And although we often begin the practice with familiar poses or sequences from there we expand and create something unique and never before experienced. As much as we think we know exactly where we are going, as Martin Buber says, All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.
I just got a Mac. I’ve been a PC girl up until this point in my life. I have been very afraid of exploring new territory in this way. I knew it could be better but the mediocrity of how my PC worked was fine. What’s weird is that I’m not like this anywhere else in my life. I will happily travel to new places, try new foods, experiment with creative flow of poses, I’ll seek out the next spiritual adventure! But not when it comes to my laptop. Then I think of RD Laing’s words, “Creative people who can't help but explore other mental territories are at greater risk, just as someone who climbs a mountain is more at risk than someone who just walks along a village lane.”
Life is too short to just keep walking on the beaten path. I know I could see more if I opened my eyes to being at the top of the mountain. Yoga inspires us to reveal our fears or hesitations so we can grow beyond them into new uncharted potential. The way yoga has changed my life is that it made me realize the briefness of our life as human creatures. There is not time to waste. We must keep exploring!
I believe as Neale Donald Walsch writes, “Every decision you make - every decision - is not a decision about what to do. It's a decision about Who You Are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do.” I came here to make a difference and trying out new poses on the mat during yoga class gives me the opportunity to explore myself more deeply. From there I’ve realized anything is possible.
This combined with the support of dear friends, one of whom in particular was vitally important in encouraging me to adventure away from the PC world into Mac land. They saw before I did my ability to enhance my ways of working, my way of being. And the decision I made to take this risk is a reflection of who I am in the world, just like trying new or challenging poses in class offers me the same opportunity. So don’t hold back don’t get stuck in the SMART goals (specific measurable achievable realistic) break free of that crap. As is written in the book How We Choose to be Happy, “When you step away from the confines of realistic you become an artist painting your own masterpiece, an explorer charting new territories. You are creating new ways of looking at situations; you innovate at work and at home.. It’s impossible to be bored with your life.” Love your life! Silvia
EXPLORATION
So here's the theme: how Yoga is the practice of revealing yourself to yourself. The whole thing is about self-exploration. Hope you can rock with me with great music and fun flow to feel for yourself how “Exploration really is the essence of the human spirit.” Here are some favorite quotes that inspired this practice. I also emailed out the actual class plan that I hope you have enjoyed! Love in all ways, Silvia
Whenever there is a reaching down into innermost experience, into the nucleus of personality, most people are overcome by fear and many run away. . . The risk of inner experience, the adventure of the spirit, is in any case alien to most human beings. The possibility that such experience might have psychic reality is anathema to them. – Carl Jung
Creative people who can't help but explore other mental territories are at greater risk, just as someone who climbs a mountain is more at risk than someone who just walks along a village lane. – RD Laing
Every decision you make - every decision - is not a decision about what to do. It's a decision about Who You Are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do. - Neale Donald Walsch
If you're not failing every now and again, it's a sign you're not doing anything very innovative. - Woody Allen
POTENTIALITY: CREATE YOUR BEST LIFE
MAY 8th, 2009: On this beautiful Mother's Day weekend, where we honor the power of creation itself, I feel deeply inspired by all of the Mom's that practice yoga with us at TBY. I see their strength and quiet courage in making time for their own nourishment on the yoga mat so that they have more to give their children and partners. You are all amazing in that you are modeling such healthy choices for your families! Keep shining out for you are making the world better not only for your kids but for the children of your children. This ripple of self-love lasts forever!
And I'd like to especially recognize all the current pregnant goddesses practicing with us in almost every single class. What a humbling expression of love to be in the practice with such a powerful being growing inside.
Finally I bow in gratitude to one of the most powerful women I know, my mentor Shiva Rea, who inspires me with such infinite goddess energy to be a better person and teacher each and every day. Yesterday she wrote these words that I totally embrace and want to share with you, "All praises to the men who love women and the women who love men...Ah Shiva-Shakti!"
You see this practice is one of finding the balance and honoring the power of creation and the action required to direct that energy into new realms. We are Shiva Shakti, we are sun, moon, Zeus and Athena, Sita and Ram. Through spiritual practice we can find that perfect harmony within ourselves. We discover our potential for more and greater things! Even if the way we are doing life now is good, it can evolve more as our nature is one of expansion and creativity. So today let’s harness our own creative power to give birth to the next stage of our lives, to our best self ever! Listen to your heart, Silvia
